Help the planet and the environment by recycling your old TV

World Environment Day is an annual event, and inevitably we start thinking about how we can make a difference. Every year, we hear about how we should switch the lights off when we leave the room and keep our heater set to a modest temperature. But your options don’t just stop there!

Helping the environment by recycling your TV

Did you know that Australians generate 539,000 tonnes of e-waste every year? It’s a tremendous amount; the weight of nearly 15 million 75″ TVs. In Australia, half of this ends up in landfill, where mercury and lead can leak into the environment and have a devastating effect. It also means more valuable components have to be made from rare earth minerals, increasing the environmental impact of mining.

And the global situation is even worse. 17.4% of e-waste is effectively recycled, out of a staggering 57.4m tonnes. This e-waste is filled with valuable materials, like gold and silver. Keeping it from going to landfill can make a huge difference.

ENGLAON is proud to be part of the National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme. An Australian Government initiative, the NTCRS helps prevent our TVs going to landfill, and instead ensures that we meet our environmental responsibility and recycle as much as possible.

Under the NTCRS, there is a strong target for 90% of recycled material to be processed into new, useable materials. This helps keep the environmental impact of mining low, and dramatically reduces how much e-waste goes to landfill.

How can I recycle my TV?

We truly believe that we all have a part to play in keeping our environment clean for future generations. We aren’t begrudging members of the NTCRS, but enthusiastic ones, proud that we can help in making a difference.
